Kids, Cinema & New Ideas
Kids for films is a short film festival for children, organized by children in Árborg. Here, children and young people get the opportunity to discover new stories, watch short films from different countries and take part in shaping their own film festival.
Founder
Kids for Films was founded by Sandra Steinþórsdóttir, who has worked in the Icelandic film industry since 2009. She graduated with a diploma in Screenwriting and Directing from the Icelandic Film School and has worked on a wide range of film and television productions in Iceland and abroad.
Sandra lives in Selfoss and has strong interest in film, creativity and children's media literacy. Through the festival, she wanted to create a space where children can discover diverse films and take an active role in film culture.
The idea behind the festival
Kids for Films was created with the aim of giving children a greater role in film culture. We want to create a space where children can discover new stories, share ideas and and experience cinema together.
A space for conversation, creativity and new ideas. We want to encourage children to watch, think, ask questions and share.

Kids for Films / Kvikmyndahátíð barnanna is organized in collaboration with Cinema ehf., the operator of Bíóhúsið in Selfoss, which has generously agreed to host the festival and screen the films. Bíóhúsið brings decades of experience in showcasing movies under the best possible conditions. We are excited to see the films selected by our young jurors come to life on the big screen at Bíóhúsið
The project is supported by grants from SASS (The association of Municipalities in South Iceland), the Icelandic Film Centre, and the Municipality of Árborg.
